Few Reasons Why I Miss Bangalore

A couple of days ago, Naren (roomie) and me went out for a casual walk down the pleasant boulevard in Hiranandani (Powai) ... for some eye-tonic, of course (it's so great ... I can go on a blog and beat my chest as I write very honestly that we went there to see the girls ... that's the f***ing delight of singlehood)! While returning, we stopped by at the Natural's ice-cream place ... and that's when I seriously started missing the Lichee-with-Cream delight that I used to treat myself to at the various Corner House's (mouse:mice::house:hice ... no?!) across Bangalore.

Now, I am never tempted to put Bangalore anywhere in my good books, but there are a few things that only Bangalore could give me ... and a few things that I miss about Bangalore so much. I thought I would be able to list ten of those things here ... but all I could muster was six ... Bangalore, overall, *is* a shady place ... but here are those 6 things:

1) FCUK, and FCUK-ers.
The amazing football sessions with the reds (crimsons) and yellows (canaries) of the Football Club of Urban Koramangala ... and the post-session-juice-time ... FCUK would have to be at the top of my list ... anytime!

2) Friends, and Family
I must have seen almost all the ManUtd games at Bongi's place, seasoned with Garima's tastefully done cold-coffee's. It was fun to be with the IIT-hostel-and-batch mates (Parle, buddy, I miss you so much ... and Nikunj too) ... and common friends of ours (Shantanu ... that includes you)! Of course, it was always a stress-buster to visit Yogesh Bhaiyya, Tanu Bhabhi, and play kaka to my nephews.

3) The Weather
Yups ... the popular, now-almost-folklored weather of Bangalore. A Bombay guy would know the worth ... !

4) Litchee with Cream, Corner House
The least said, the better! I'll still blah, though! Sometimes, all I wanted in life was a Litchee-with-Cream... worth the Rs. 95/- that it came for in those days. Worth every single paisa ... every single aana ... !

5) My Bachelor Pad
8th Block, Koramangala. Living alone was depressing many times (yeah ... those were also the times when getting depressed was easy), but there were so many occasions when I just reveled in residing alone. By sheer luck, I got one of the best places to stay in K'mangala (for a bachelor, that is), and an amazing, amazing landlord. It was pity I didn't have anyone (bloody long distance relationships) to share that time with ... but, may be, it was a boon in disguise (every silly thing is, really).

6) Monday Morning Matinee Shows at Forum
Yups ... the perks of being self-employed! I would make sure that I started my week with a movie, and there was no better time to go to the mall than Monday mornings ... when all the mall-rats were back to their usual grind. Plus, a morning show was priced at Rs. 70/- only. I am looking to start doing the same thing in Bombay too ... but where are the good movies?!

7) The IITB Alumni Association Chapter
Oh stupid me ... how could i forget the IITBAA. One of the best pleasures I have received is to volunteer while working for the Bangalore Chapter of the IITBAA - there was nothing better than that, at times, really. Especially when we planned the entire "Kal, Aaj, Aur Kal" event. Thanks, Saumil, for intro-ing me to the group where I met some amazingly wonderful people-cum-alumni (Sameer Kumar, Sanjay Jain, Ashok Kamath, Ananth, Rahul Chaubey, Srikant Rao) ... !

May be I will get some more nice things to think about Bangalore (I doubt) ... i'll update this page when I do. Till then, go read something really worthwhile instead of wasting your time here, you moron :P Ha ha haha!

After a long time, Sari and me farted on the sidelines of the footer field. Those were the days ...!

If there's one thing I value the most in life, it's my health. If there's one thing that I can devote completely to, it's sports. The last week or so has been the most demanding, most torturous collection of days in recent times - all because of the amount of physical activities I am taking my body through. Life is so good!

I will never understand why people like Bangalore so much ... probably it's those people who are well settled in some North Indian residential society, with a secure IT job, and a weather to kill for. For random products like me, Bangalore was faaaaar from satiating ... it wasn't even close to pleasing. However, there were a few things ... things that helped me sustain/tolerate Bangalore for 3 years (almost).

Merchandizing, in India, is still in the concept stage - and a few bodies who are trying to execute their strategies are getting it all wrong - as it seems to me. I use this post to vent my vehement frustrations on how our sports bodies have stopped thinking much about how to approach the entire merchandising concept.

While the world's been wondering on what women really want in life, I have it all figured out over here! And whom do I have to thank for this ...? A typical, normal, stinking street dog! I think street dogs are amazing ... they live life on their own terms, sleep when they have to, wherever they want to, and roam around like lions on the streets at nights. Plus, the have some weird cute quotient that extracts all those "oohs" and "wowwwws" from the women.

My Current Fav. Number!

(before you read on, listen to this song here ... opens in a new window).

Emraan Hashmi (exactly one day younger to me in life ... 24th March 1979 - 23rd March 1979) seems to get all the wonderful songs of this era - well almost. It's not co-incidental, though ... he literally works for the Bhatt banner, and the Bhatt banner keeps it simple with its films: thriller scripts woven by an erotic thread, and different-plus-good music (original or whatever) ...

Idiots Love Idioms!

Play by Ear

When I first heard this phrase (that was yesterday, when I finally downloaded and watched the movie ... oops ... the brilliant Korean movie, "In Mood For Love" ... recommended vehemently by Parle urf Prateek Mehta), I thought that probably a word was missing. Grammatically, it should have been, "Play by the ear", no? I thought may be the subtitles guy had got it wrong ...

A little bit of etymology research revealed that the phrase was first spoken in the Shakespearean era ... and I would rather not talk about the grammatical ways of those times. So, "Play by ear" it is!

The phrase holds a similar meaning to the phrase, "Cross the bridge when it comes" ... as in, act impromptu as per the situation's demands ...

Neat, methinks! Next time someone asks me about my plans regarding whatever, I would probably be blahing, "Hmmm ... no plans ... I'll play by ear ... " ... and then show-off at length about my love for idioms/figures-of-speech ... :P
