Yoho!!
Finally the smartest sardar of my life,
Gurjeev Singh Chadha (whom girls call, "Jeev") permitted me to start thumping the keyboard on this post!
I am not completely impressed with the concept of goal-setting by making lists like, "### Things To Do Before I Die." How am I to know how much time I have! Some might say, "That's the point - start doing what you want right away" ... to which I would unconsciously mutter, "Yeah ... right!"
The trouble is ... I am like 90% of the people I know: absolutely last-minute fellows - be it studying for the midsems, or working on some corporatey-project-presentation. Unless I have a very huge stake in doing something right away, I would find it very effortless to ignore Sant Kabir ...
That's why I decided to create a "30 Things To Do Before I Dye" list instead ... that gives me a two-fold benefit : first, I am more aware of the time that I have in my hands, and second, it doesn't take long to realise that I don't have much time left, really. (With all this wisdom in my head, how can I not have any grey hair)!
Some of the things I really want to do before I dye have been shamlessly listed in the
"Introduction" block on
www.ToubeBas.com. Heck! I even have a passenger for my first taxi haul in Mumbai! I made a very recent addition to the list, though: I really want to do some radio-jockeygiri someday. The inspiration behind this thought? Years of listening to FM, and all the theatrics that we have done together in school and college.
There's one more inspiration, though.
I guess thoughts can do only so much. The term, "Lateral Thinking" has been blown out of proportion ... what really matter is "Lateral Doing". Be it businesses, innovation, projects, personal ambitions ... whatever ... I can safely say from my experience that innovative thinking matters for 1%, while out-of-the-box execution is what accounts for the remaining 99. For something as silly as starting a blog ... or even silly-er like making tea!
Given this context - I take my hats off to Jeev and Noni! A few months ago, Chadha started venturing into the adventurous world outside of the corporate cubicle - like, volunteering for various events; setting up a pseudo-franchisee for Toube Bas in the US by actually printing, going out there and selling the IITB X-Axis tshirts at stalls; preparing for some 10 mile runathon; starting a volleyball team in his company; and working as an intern for a VC firm!
It seems that that wasn't enough! He mentioned to me that he will try to become an RJ in his local setup - and I wished him good luck (while I knew it would take a few years before he starts on this).
However, a few weeks ago, he sends in a mail to me
with this clip attached!! It features Chadha urf Jeev and (wife) Ishmeet urf Noni promoting their radio show, "
Jaagte Raho Bajaate Raho" ... ! :) (Please do listen to the clip - their chirpy voices will tell you how gorgeous a couple theirs is)!
A week later, he informed me that he is on air with the show, a-l-r-e-a-d-y!! Now ... *that* was stunning! Isn't it a complete bliss to realise that a friend with whom you would listen to Mumbai's FM channels (while pretending to study) ... is actually playing old and new Hindi songs, at prime party time, and making all the desi's in the entire Silicon Valley either gyrate to them, or hum them along!!! More than that: he is wearing those bulky headphones, with the classic radio-station microphone in front of him, in a studio full of sound machines ... and enjoying his commentary, farting, joking around ... and talking to callers who can't stop appreciating the show which is now a hit!
And it gets even better: he is doing all this with his wifey - the ultra-talented Ishmeet! Have a deko at these pictures - how their fun shows on their faces!!
Chadha ... clap clap rahega! Hats off to you ... and everyone who heard it has loved Ishmeet's voice immensely! I love that you've walked your talk, swayed the bull by the horns, and gotten radioactive! Congratulations!
